Houses

Well, I’m currently looking for houses to move into in January. More specifically, a house, but you get the drift.
Current thoughts are somewhere as close to the Eastern Freeway as possible, between Chandler Highway and Elgar Rd. Ideally, I’d like enough data to be able to determine optimal ($rent+$petrol) values with respect to $location, given constant $quality. The latter may be a bit of an assumption.

So far we’ve seen promising things in Doncaster. The general idea is to get 3 people into a 4 bedroom house that has 3 living areas. John and I will be sharing a study, in a possibly short-lived attempt to be productive :-). Hopefully we’ll have two new 20″ iMacs and a Mac Mini to play with though, thanks to the AUDF Development Grants (assuming we get one). Toys are always good :-)

So hopefully we’d end up with:
* 3 Bedrooms – John, Ben, Dave
* 1 Spare Bedroom – (possibly Ben’s study)
* 1 Kitchen/Meals Area
* 1 TV/Projector Area
* 1 Study Area (of Lounge Room size, not traditional ‘study’ size which is a euphemism for midget-sized bedroom)

With hopefully enough space for a 4th person. i.e. We want the space, not the person 😉

Have seen a few places in Doncaster that look promising. It could be interesting to try areas just off the freeway, such as Thornbury, Heidelberg (West), Eaglemont, etc. Also amenable to North Balwyn/Bulleen, but suspect these may have less space.

Of course, a 6 bedroom mansion in Templestowe for sod all per week would be nice, but is just a little too far away :P. Ideally I would like bike access to the city. But I’m prepared to forgo that for extra space :-)

Anyway, once we find something, I’ll post pictures :-)
